Automatic Signal
Assignment
The new PRED designs feature an
automatic signal assignment manager that allows the PRED to
timeshare a single DRFM or VCO among several emitters
simultaneously. In addition, the manager will change ECM
techniques depending on what radar modes it is receiving.
Radar modes are defined by detected characteristics such as pulse
width, PRI and whether the emitter is scanning or non-scanning.
The figure below shows our six
emitter environment with both interleaved and overlapping scans -
the top trace depicts input video to the PRED. The lower
traces show how the PRED generates the DRFM_Write and DRFM_Read
commands during each illumination as well as the number
corresponding to the ECM technique that is being generated.
Up to eight ECM techniques can be predefined by the operator, and in
this case, ECM 0 is assigned to Video 0, ECM 1 is assigned to Video
1, and so on. Note that in this example environment, each emitter
can be uniquely identified based on PRI and PW. This clearly shows the PRED's ability to not only jam multiple
emitters simultaneously but also to generate multiple ECM techniques
depending on the radar's characteristics.

The video clip shows the PRED
generating 3 different ECM techniques for 3 different emitters: an
inbound CRV for the first emitter, a fixed inbound false target for
another and a CRBM technique for the third.
In each of the videos, the top
(yellow) trace of the
oscilloscope shows the video signal input to the PRED. The
bottom (blue) trace shows the output of the PRED which can be used
as the DRFM_Read strobe or to modulate a VCO.
